As kids, we grow up knowing that when you look at the night sky and see a shooting star or the brightest star in the sky, you can make a wish and if you just wish hard enough that wish will come true. The typical phrase we learn as a kid goes something like this.
“Star light, Star bright, the first Star I see tonight, I wish I may, I wish I might, Have the wish I wish tonight.”
Those lines might seem so childish now, but we all thought it worked. I remember looking out at the bright sky and thinking. Please Please, I wish I can have roller blades. It was so simple back then, that it didn’t even matter whether it was a giant burning ball of gas millions of miles away or a cardboard cut-out that was drenched in glitters that I was wishing on.
Last night, I was fortunate enough to see a shooting star. It’s actually not that rare but I’ve never seen one before so the sight just amazed me, it’s kind of like a shining tear drop. It just lasted for a few seconds but I remember contemplating about what I should wish for. I couldn’t let the moment pass me by before I was able to make a wish. Most would think that I would wish for money, for family, to be successful or even to win the lottery, but none of those things even crossed my mind. In those few seconds, I knew exactly what I wanted when I wanted it. I uttered those six words so softly that no one could hear me for fear that, as the saying goes, if another person heard your wish it won’t come true.
After that, it just became clear to me. Maybe things really are premeditated, maybe things such as fate really exists. I mean, if I didn’t look to the sky at that moment then I wouldn’t have seen the star, I wouldn’t have made a wish. Maybe in this whole world full of coincidences and signs. There really is such a thing as destiny, that everything is in this timeline on where and what would happen to  each person is already written in some kind of book. It’s scary and reassuring at the same time. To have some kind of plan devised guiding us to who were supposed to be with and what we’re supposed to be doing in our lives.
I mean, think about it. A shooting star is only visible for a second or two. Most people wont even notice it when it passes by. If I didn’t look up in those exact few seconds, maybe even be a second or two early or late, I would have missed it. But I didn’t. And in that moment that I noticed such a beautiful and wonderful spectacle, I knew that I wouldn’t forget it for the rest of my life.
Timing is everything. It’s what allows us to meet the people we know and what lets us appreciate how lucky we are to have them in our lives. To all those people who are still waiting for their star to fall for them, take it from me: it’s worth the wait.
